![]() 'MAD DAD' FACTOR IN CAREERS May 13, 2006 Who's your daddy? Your success or failure at work can have everything to do with what kind of father you had, says "The Father Factor," a book due out next month. The author, Dr. Stephan Poulter, lists five types - the superachiever, the time bomb, the passive parent, the absent dad and the compassionate mentor. The time bomb, prone to exploding in anger, inadvertently teaches how to read people and moods, Poulter writes, a helpful trait for, say, personnel managers or negotiators. But those same children find it hard to trust anyone, writes Poulter, a clinical psychologist. And while "a lot of people say, 'I never knew my dad,' " Poulter said, "you knew the myth, you knew your mother's hatred, you knew your anger . . . Trust me: You knew your dad."
