Gentlemen, season three episode four of “The Visibility Gap” podcast by @cignahealthcare focuses on one of the greatest challenges that men face: expressing our feelings. Men become extremely self-conscious about how to talk about their emotions, feelings, fears, and self-doubts.
Men want to be “manly” and embrace vulnerability without losing themselves.
Being able to connect to ourselves is one of our most important steps in our adult development starting from age 5 on through our lifeline.
Understanding what we think and feel is something we can no longer avoid, dismiss, or discount as non-masculine. The paradox is the more we understand ourselves as men, the more we can tap into our genuine nature and true masculinity.
Whenever the word “feelings” is brought up to men, it will clear the room out quicker than any other word or situation. Why?
- The podcast addresses these pressing questions that all men face, regardless of age:
- How do I express my feelings?
- Can I tell my spouse, friends, or family?
- When and why should I get a therapist?
- I don’t even know what to talk about if I had a therapist or a counselor?
The brotherhood has avoided these questions and emotional components to our own detriment. Now is the time for us to engage, understand ourselves. The nagging questions, feelings, and negative emotions we carry need our attention. We don’t have to suffer alone or isolate to feel safe.
Isolation is not a healthy choice or solution to a long-term problem. Withdrawing from our life puts us on the fast track to despair, shame, and hopelessness.
There are four parts that compromise our mental health:
- –feelings
- –emotions
- –beliefs
- –psychology
These four components will be explored in season three episode four of “The Visibility Gap” podcast. Our host, Dr. Guy Winch, leads us in this
important healing journey into our untapped potential.
Gentlemen, let’s begin to understand what’s under the hood of our life. The biggest surprise will be that we never had anything to fear or avoid.
Thank You
Dr. Steve
